Because one food pantry can not serve all clients in the Chicagoland area, the clients are directed to a pantry that is in or near the zip code in which they live. There are over 600 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in the Chicago area that are network members of the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
The food that we distribute at the Irving Park Community Food Pantry is meant to supplement other food that clients may be able to purchase through other means such as food stamps. We provide about 3-5 days of food for our clients based on the number of people in the household.
We strive to provide our clients with nutritionally balanced foods such as dairy products, fresh produce, meat, and bread. Items distributed vary weekly based on available food resources.
Depending on donations received, we are also able to distribute other items such as baby food, diapers, toiletries, hats, gloves and blankets when available.
While our clients are waiting to be served, we provide them with coffee and some kind of pastries or snacks.
The service area for the pantry is all of the 60641 zip code and the 60618 zip code west of Kedzie Avenue.
Clients who are out of our service area will be referred to a pantry within the client's service area.
