What Does the Food Pantry Need?

Due to government budget cutbacks, our commodities–or subsidized food supplies–are decreasing every month. As a member agency of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, we are able to purchase food at a much lower rate than at retail stores. This means that any monetary donation will go far! You can make a donation right here on our website!

That said—the majority of the food we’re receiving from the government and depository is canned. This means that if you’re looking for food to donate to our food pantry, please keep this easy rule in mind: Think light (as in weight), think prepared (as in prepared foods).

Plain white or brown rice, plain pasta, dried beans, cookies, chips, crackers, snack bars, Jell-O, dried soup (like lipton or ramen), flavored pasta and/or rice mix (like Knolls, Lipton or Rice-a-Roni), energy or fruit snacks, canned meat (tuna, chicken, other fish), and cereal (oatmeal or regular cereal). We also accept baby food. Please note the expiration dates. In addition, we always are in need of diapers, men’s white crew socks as well as shampoos, soaps, toothpastes, toothbrushes, and razors. Travel sizes are welcome. If you’d like to sponsor a food drive at your school or organization, let us know so we can send you flyer information, and make arrangements for a pick-up or drop-off.

Due to extreme space limitations, we cannot accept donations of books, clothing or other items. THANK YOU!
